Accessing Lock-Net Newsgroups

 

Lock-net provides access to thousands of newsgroups.  To access these newsgroups, you will need a "newsreader".  A newsreader is a program that is capable of searching and displaying newsgroups and the messages they contain.

Outlook Express (which comes on most Windows machines) has a built in newsreader.  Below are instructions for setting it up to access Lock-Net's news server.


Information Needed for Accessing The Lock-Net News Server

News (NNTP) Server *

news.lock-net.com

Does the server require me to log on?

Yes
Account Name * locknetr
Account Password * newsguyr
Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)? No.

*NOTE: This information will only work if you are dialed in to Lock-Net.  If you use a different ISP, these setting will not work.  For usernames and passwords to access certain restricted newsgroups, please contact us.



1) Open Outlook Express.
2) Go to "Tools" then select "Accounts".
3) Click on the "News" tab.
4) Click on the "Add" button at the right.  Select "News" from the list.
5) Enter your name in the field provided.  Press "Next".
6) Enter your e-mail address in the field provided.  Press "Next".
7) Enter "news.lock-net.com" in the "News (NNTP) Server" field.  Also, check the box at the bottom labeled "My news server requires me to log on".  Press "Next".
8) It will prompt you for an account name and password.  Enter locknetr for the username, and newsguyr as the password.  Make sure the box labeled
"Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is unchecked. Press Next.
9) Press "Finished".

Congratulations!  You are set up to access the Lock-Net Newsgroups!
